Jorge Lopez
Jorge Lopez is an education and nonprofit executive with more than two decades of experience building, scaling, and leading organizations focused on educational opportunity, institutional strategy, and community impact.
He is the founder and former CEO of Amethod Public Schools, where he led the growth of a single school into a multi-campus organization serving thousands of students across California. Under his leadership, AMPS earned national and state recognition, including a National Blue Ribbon School Award from the U.S. Department of Education, multiple California Title I Academic Achievement Awards, California Distinguished School recognitions, and the California Charter Schools Association’s Charter School of the Year distinction.
Jorge’s work has lived at the intersection of strategy, execution, governance, enrollment, public policy, facilities, organizational turnaround, and leadership under pressure. He has spent his career inside the systems that shape families, schools, nonprofits, and communities — not from theory alone, but from the operating table.
He has served on the California State Board of Education, the Advisory Commission on Charter Schools, and the California Department of Education Waiver Committee. He is an Aspen-Pahara Fellow, a UnidosUS National Institute for Latino School Leadership Fellow, an Achievement First Accelerator Fellow, and a member of the National Charter School Resource Center Advisory Group.
Today, Jorge’s work and writing focus on the future of learning, the impact of artificial intelligence on underserved communities, and the redesign of educational and nonprofit systems for a rapidly changing social and economic landscape.
Through his developing essay project, Times of the Sign, he writes about leadership, culture, education, memory, institutions, and the signals people often miss until the consequences are already in motion.
