Mel King

Dr. Melissa King (she/her) is a social and behavioral scientist and the principal of People's Health Solutions, a consulting practice dedicated to building healthy communities together. For 25 years, she has led equity-centered research, evaluation, and planning projects that promote civic engagement in public health. In recent years, Mel has focused much of her work on community safety and violence prevention, helping to empower survivors of intimate partner violence and human trafficking. This has included initiatives with Los Angeles County Office of Women’s Health, Oregon Department of Justice, and other local agencies. Mel has also helped implement a variety of state mental health programs including the Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program in California, Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative in Massachusetts, and American Academy of Pediatrics Building Mental Wellness in Ohio. A passionate facilitator, she has hosted hundreds of dialogues to help generate shared understanding of community needs and history. Mel holds a PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Master of Public Affairs in Public Policy and Administration from The University of Texas at Austin.
