NVIDIA Ranked as Pacesetter on Women's Power and Influence Index
Over the last few months, The Difference Engine has been sharing our initial findings from version 1.0 of the Women's Power & Influence Index. The Index ranks diverse companies in three broad categories: Trailblazers, Pacesetters, and Late Bloomers. Today we are sharing that NVIDIA, a graphic processing technology company, is ranked as a Pacesetter.
The Women’s Power and Influence Index is a product of The Difference Engine designed to define objective measurements to rank the power of women at the workplace.
The Index is a publicly available ranking metric with the eventual goal of quantifying equity. Developed by a multi-disciplinary team of Arizona State University students, staff, and faculty, the Index analyzes Equal Employment Opportunity data as well as publicly available policy information from large companies and organizations in order to build a quantitative measure of workplace inequality as a tool to that encourages institutions to adopt more equitable policies.
NVIDIA is categorized as a “Pacesetter” based on the Index’s comprehensive measurement criteria. Organizations categorized as Pacesetters on the Index have some policies and procedures that focus on developing a inclusive workplace for all people, including women, but are lacking some of the essential components that make up a truly progressive and equity focused organization. NVIDIA has strong efforts mixed with shortcomings, resulting in their mid-grade rating on the Index’s measurement metrics.
Some of the reasons for NVIDIA’s middle-of-the-pack position on the Index include:
- NVIDIA offers subsidized childcare, 22 weeks of paid time leave for birth parents, 12 weeks of paid time for nonbirth parents, and fertility benefits.
- Based on the most recent EEO data, just 15% of NVIDIA’s executives are women, and only 19% of their total workforce is female.
- NVIDIA offers a Women in Technology resource group for their employees to gain access various services including sharing their feedback to improve the companies gender equity policies
- All NVIDIA employees receive ethics and sexual harassment training upon hiring. Every two years thereafter, they also complete a code of conduct training.
These, and other trend lines are the result of our team's months-long data collection and analysis process that includes analyzing data from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to searching publicly available information and documents related to NVIDIA
In addition to shining a light on the status of women at the workplace, the Index’s secondary goal is to encourage organizations to begin adopting more equitable practices. One way we do this is to make Index data publicly accessible so that anyone, from employees, candidates, investors, shareholders, journalists, or civil society advocates - all can have insight into the ways our country's corporations value women at the workplace.
