Meta Ranked as Late Bloomer on Women's Power & Influence Index
Over the last few months, The Difference Engine has been sharing our initial findings from version 1.0 of the Women's Power & Influence Index (WPI). The Index ranks diverse companies in three broad categories: Trailblazers, Pacesetters, and Late Bloomers. Today we are sharing the company profile of Meta, the parent company of social media empires Facebook & Instagram. Meta is a "Late Bloomer" on the WPI, indicating that in terms of equity they are behind other Fortune 1000 companies.
The Women’s Power and Influence Index is a product of The Difference Engine designed to define measurable criteria to rank the power (equity) of women at the workplace.
The Index is a publicly available ranking metric with the eventual goal of quantifying equity. Developed by a multi-disciplinary team of Arizona State University students, staff, and faculty, the Index analyzes Equal Employment Opportunity data as well as publicly available policy information from large companies and organizations in order to build a quantitative measure of workplace fairness. This Index is a tool to that can be used by job seekers to evaluate options, as well as to engage investors and institutions in conversations on adopting more equitable policies.
Meta has been ranked as a Late Bloomer on the Women's Power Index! This social media firm has made some progress over the years, but trails behind other tech firms in terms of equitable workplace. As part of the WPI research, we found that:
- Gender equity is a top priority for the Index. While Meta offer a professional development program for women and generous leave policies, there's room for improvement in pay equity, mentorship opportunities, and childcare benefits.
- Meta's Women LEAD program is a professional development initiative which empowers women to take charge of their careers and create action plans for success.
Our latest WPI report on Meta's gender equity policies has shed light on the challenges women face in the tech industry. It's time to break down the barriers and create a more inclusive and diverse workplace. In addition to shining a light on the status of women at the workplace, our secondary goal is to encourage organizations to begin adopting more equitable practices. In order to reach this goal, the Index data will be publicly accessible so that anyone, from employees, candidates, investors, shareholders, journalists, or civil society advocates - all can have insight into the ways our country's corporations value women at the workplace.
