Intel Ranked As Pacesetter by Women's Power and Influence Index
Intel has joined the ranks of the Women's Power Index lineup. Over the last few months, The Difference Engine has been sharing our initial findings from version 1.0 of the Women's Power & Influence Index (WPI). The Index ranks diverse companies into three broad categories: Trailblazers, Pacesetters, and Late Bloomers.
The Women’s Power and Influence Index is a product of The Difference Engine designed to define measurable criteria to rank the power (equity) of women at the workplace.
The Index is developed by a multi-disciplinary team of Arizona State University students and staff, as well as faculty from multiple institutions. The Index analyzes Equal Employment Opportunity data as well as publicly available policy information from large companies and organizations in order to build quantitative measurements of workplace fairness. This Index is a tool to that can be used by job seekers to evaluate options, or to engage investors and institutions in conversations on adopting more equitable policies.
As a multinational semiconductor technology company, Intel has been recognized as a Pacesetter, based on the criteria set by our Index team. As we embark on this exploration of Intel's gender equity policies, here are some highlights of their notable achievements and areas that call for improvement.
- Intel has achieved pay equity and has several female-centric programs including Intel’s Women’s Initiative, The Command Presence Workshop, and the Accelerated Women’s Leadership Program.
- Intel goes the extra mile to support their employees' families. They offer childcare benefits, paid time off for new parents, and even fertility benefits.
- Based on the latest Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) data, just 25% of Intel’s executives are women and only 27% of the total workforce is female.
- We couldn't find specific information about Intel's diverse recruitment processes or a dedicated gender equality program. This and other aspects present avenues for growth and improvement.
Our latest WPI company profile release on Intel's gender equity policies has shed more light on the challenges women face in tech industries. It's time to break down the barriers and create a more inclusive and diverse workplace. In addition to shining a light on the status of women at the workplace, our secondary goal is to encourage organizations to both adopt more equitable policies and to embrace transparency for recruiting and investing. Index data will be publicly accessible so that anyone, from employees, job candidates, investors, shareholders, journalists, and advocates can have insight into the ways our country's corporations value women at the workplace.
