Wednesday, July 5, 2023 - 13:15

The Difference Engine has just released the latest ranking on The Women's Power and Influence Index. We recently shared the ranking for Intel, and now it's time to reveal where PayPal, a financial technology company, stands on the Index.

As someone who values equity and fair treatment in the workplace, you may be interested to know that our team has completed an extensive months-long research project to create version one of the Women's Power and Influence Index. We collected data from various sources, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and publicly available information related to PayPal, to analyze the status of women in the workplace.

So, where does PayPal rank on the Index? Well, they are categorized as a "Trailblazer," meaning they have policies and procedures that focus on developing a progressive and inclusive workplace for all people, including women. PayPal's efforts in this regard have resulted in high marks on nearly all of the Index's measurement metrics.

Some of the reasons for PayPal’s high position on the Index include:

  • PayPal is committed to eliminating the gender pay gap, and currently, their female employees start at a median base pay of 100% of what men receive in the same job.
  • PayPal offers mentorship opportunities and professional development through their Women’s Resource Groups.
  • Based on the most recent EEO data, 34% of its executives are women, and 42% of the workforce is female.
  • PayPal offers backup childcare, 26 weeks of maternity leave, two weeks of paternity leave, and fertility benefits.
  • PayPal is involved in community engagement programs such as Black Girl Ventures, a way to help women grow their businesses through mentorship. PayPal also offers a Recharge program, where women who have been out of the workforce can regain skills and enter the technology industry.

The WPI not only sheds light on the current state of women in corporate structures but also aims to encourage organizations to adopt more equitable practices. We believe that transparency is crucial in driving change, which is why we have made the WPI data publicly accessible for anyone to access, including employees, candidates, investors, shareholders, journalists, and civil society advocates. By providing this information, we hope to empower women to make informed decisions about their careers and support companies that value and prioritize gender equity.
